Hugs and Kisses

Lisa Meyer - Heart
Hugs and Kisses
Well, I've been doing a pretty good job of just "being" these last few weeks which has meant that I haven't been blogging much. I have been in the studio a fair amount though. The kilns have been running and I have paint on my fingers daily. That is a good thing!

I made several collage hearts and took them to the gallery on Friday. They had all sold by Sunday! Since they were for the Valentine's Day exhibit, I will be making a few more in the next few weeks. I also had some time to do a few drawings. I made a bunny, but then he needed friends. Not sure what I will be doing with them, but they are super cute.

This weekend, I go on a road trip to Tucson for the huge gem festival. I haven't made jewelry in a while, but I am sure that I will be distracted by all of the shiny things and will come home with a few new baubles. The thought of all of those gorgeous gems will have to keep me distracted during the twelve hour drive. Interstate 10 though west Texas is not the most exciting drive!

My Word for 2016: Be

My Patio
Each year, instead of resolutions, I pick a word to set the tone for the year. This year, my word is "Be". Just "Be".

In the past, I have picked action words that had me working towards a goal - finish this, build that, make, clean, reorganize. Recent events have made me really look at time and how it is spent. It is one of our most precious assets, but we tend to think it is unlimited. Someday, I will... Once I do this, then I can... I'm ready for someday.

I have a wonderful home, studio space and garden. Mr. Tabby has his creation space now. None are completely "done" but they are ready to be used and enjoyed. So this year, I just want to Be. I want to enjoy the people I love (four legged people included). I want to enjoy and use the spaces we have created. That means sitting on the patio with a cup of coffee listening to the birds. Reading. Laughing with friends and family. Listening to music. Soaking it all in.

This one will be hard for me. I am a do-er and always have a checklist of projects/chores. And, it doesn't mean that there won't be any new projects (sorry, Mr. Tabby). But I will try to do a better job of creating balance and enjoying the time that I have with the people that I love.

New Beginnings

This year, I am taking steps to carve out more creative time in my studio. Last year, I eliminated some time consuming distractions and changed my upcoming "day job" work schedule. I consolidated and cleaned. I added running water and AC (very important in Texas). I still have some work to do in the glass studio to get it completely functional, but I am almost there!

With that goal in mind, I spent the entire New Year's Day creating and working on projects. I finished a new set of mixed media originals, worked on an encaustic piece and started a new canvas! I was definitely on a roll.

Here is wishing you a new year filled with the things that you love!
