Spring is Finally Here…

Spring is finally here - although you wouldn't know it by our chilly weather today. I've spent the last few weeks in the garden getting the compost in (six truck beds full!) and getting things planted. The vegetable garden is in full swing. We have tomatoes and peppers in the ground. CK&E ate all of the asparagus this weekend. There are strawberries on the way which made them very happy. The hummers are back and today I saw a Yellow Swallowtail butterfly and a Monarch flying around the new flowers. I love Spring – the promise of a wonderful year to come!

A result of traveling less for work has been that I have had more time to connect with my friends. When I travel constantly, I am just too tired to do anything other than veg on the weekends. This weekend I was able to catch up with J and yesterday I had lunch with A. I have been friends with both of them since we worked at the same place while working our way through college. We counted a while back and realized that we've been friends for almost 25 years. We don't always meet regularly (except for the annual Fiesta party at L's), but when we do get together it is like no time has passed. They are the ones that I can truly count on no matter where life is taking us. Friends like that are priceless!

This past weekend, I took a Beginning Metalsmithing class at the Southwest School of Art. I learned how to use some of the tools that I have amassed but have been afraid to try. Attached is a picture of my latest creation. Not the most beautiful thing I've ever made, but I soldered, sawed, drilled, bezeled, riveted and finished. I know I will be using those techniques in the future. Now I just need to get busy in the studio.
