Back from vacation and back to the daily grind. After a day spent unpacking, I was off to work again - in DC this time. The fall calendar is also filling up quickly with knee surgery, shows and a few mini-trips.
I had such great plans to do some art journaling along the way during our vacation. We were driving so I didn't have to worry about liquids or weight. I made a box of supplies and pre-painted some pretty papers. What did I get done in the 14 days? Nothing, nada, zippo! I didn't even open my box. Too much to do – too many things to see…
I did take pictures (too many if you ask my daughter), visited galleries (too many if you ask my daughter) and made some sketches/notes in my journal. And, I have come home with many ideas in my head. I am anxious to get into the studio to work on some of the ideas. The problem is time – never enough time…

Today we are in Perdido Key, Florida near Gulf Shores, Alabama. We visited the Orange Beach Arts Center. The center has an art gallery of local artists. They also provide classes for both children and adults. We took advantage of the Hot Shop and we made some paperweights and a flower. The instructor was very patient and informative. It is obvious that the community is very artist friendly and they do quite a bit to support the center. I think that this is what our little Bulverde Area Arts Center would like to be when it grows up.

Today was a water play day. C and I rode in a shuttlecraft with the dogs. Hubby rode a jet ski. We saw quite a few dolphins which made C very happy. The dolphins even did some tricks for us. I think they were trying to figure out what the dogs were.
Tybee is a very dog friendly place (except for the beaches). They looked so cute in their life jackets.

My Hubby is so supportive of his girls and their artistic endeavors. C wanted some pictures of the cemetery but we got there too late (they close at 2:30). So, wonderful Hubby put her on his shoulders so that she could take pictures. He also stopped the car when we saw a bead shop and explored some antique shops with us.
My cemetery pictures are below. I settled for pictures through the gate.

We have started our family vacation. We are heading east on IH10 on our way to Savannah. We have the RV hitched up and the dogs along for the ride. This is our first extended vacation in the RV. In the last six years it has served more as a second home than a recreational vehicle so this is exciting for us. The dogs are just happy that they weren't left at home.
Our first stop is New Orleans. After a VERY long day (12 hours) driving, we are settled in and are planning on exploring the French Quarter today. Hubby and C have never been to New Orleans. C likes that it is so green here - much different from the extreme drought of Texas.

Hubby went to Grandma's for Easter this year. One of the neighborhood cats had had five kittens and was keeping them under her house. They were scrawny and infested with ring worm, tape worms and fleas - so he rescued them and brought them home. Momma got away so we weren't able to get her fixed. We were able to find homes for three of them, but two have stayed here. When they came, they were ugly as can be (see pathetic Poppy in the bottom left). They were also not fans of people. Fitz got his name because he threw such fits when you tried to touch him.
Fast forward three months, several trips to the vet and lots of ring worm medicine (for everyone in the house!). They are now just bundles of love. They couldn't be better pets!

I am very glad to be home but will miss the wonderful friends that I made while I was there. I hope to see them again as I will definitely be back in Maine in future Junes.
